Lennart Heyndels (°1990) is a Belgian bassist, synthesist and composer based in Brussels who performs in a wide variety of musical settings. Besides his solo work for modular synthesizers and electronics, he is also half of the experimental pop duo Hi Hawaii and bassist in a number of internationally renowned ensembles such as Ben Sluijs Quartet, Kaja Draksler Octet, Alex Koo Trio and Les Chroniques de l'Inutile.
He holds a Master degree in Jazz-Double Bass and studied at the conservatories of The Hague, Amsterdam and Paris where he got exposed to many different approaches to music making. After his studies he spent a brief time living Berlin, studying Just Intonation with Marc Sabat. His interest in the physics of sound led him to explore modular synthesizers. Lennart has continued to deepen his knowledge of electronic music during residencies at Elektronmusikstudion (EMS) in Stockholm and Leveld Kunstnartun in Norway, resulting in the EP 'Halling' (2020).
Lennart’s music is characterised by a fluid mix of styles, balancing light-hearted simplicity with serene introspection and a search for pushing boundaries.
He has been awarded several prizes among which: best jazz cd Klara 2019 (Ben Sluijs Quartet), Keep An Eye Award 2017 (How Town), Theater Aan Zee Jong Muziek 2014 (How Town), Dutch Jazz Competition 2014, European Young Artist’s Jazz Award Burghausen 2013 and Prinses Christina Jazz Concours 2010.
Lennart has performed all over the world (including Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Poland, Latvia, Kenia, South-Korea, China, Canada, … ) and has performed at major festivals and concert venues such as Bimhuis, Flagey, Ancienne Belgique, Bijloke, Lantaren/Venster, North Sea Jazz, Jazz Middelheim, Safaricom Jazz Festival (Nairobi), Vancouver Jazz Festival, Molde Jazz …
